UPDATE: This UNCONFIRMED report comes from a relative's friend in Sevastopol, and definitely needs to be checked!
"On Parshyna Street at the Russian construction battalion base next door to me a checkpoint has been set up. People went to find out what was going on. They opened fire on them. There are killed and wounded.
In Sevastopol, the Russian military have taken power. There is a complete blockade. You can't even leave Sevastpol. There are a lot of killed and wounded.
Sevastopol is flowing with blood. They are breaking into homes of EuroMaidan activists and killing everybody."
I don't see it anywhere else and I post it to check it.
Some background:
Normally, when I hear these kinds of reports of the type "my friends' friend says," I tend to discard them because most of the time people aren't really on the scene even if in a location, and they are just passing around crazy phone messages.
This report came in first saying "There is blood on the streets of Simferopol, they're killing people."
So our response was: "Turn off your Russian TV set and stop panicking, only three people were killed in the demonstration yesterday and while the government buildings are under siege, things are relatively calm. Look, here are reports from people right on the scene. Are you on the scene?"
The person persisted — "Traffic is blocked everywhere."
I kept asking for more refined detail, and I got the story of the construction battalion checkpoint — and there really is a Russian base there.
My response to this is to expect that what is most likely is that guns may have gone off, but people didn't actually see if there were killed and wounded.
Meanwhile, we are hearing about the airport being taken over by 50 armed men.
But I don't know, so I am posting this in the hope of finding out more, especially because I haven't gotten any more answers.
Meanwhile, I researched this Russian base some more, and came up with this information posted in August 2013 from a military forum from "sevstud1986":
Guys, to understand the situation, let me explain the following to you:
1. Not all the battalions are concentrated at Kazachiya Bay, there is another battalion on Parshyna Street (near Malakhova Kurhan [memorial park] in Nakhimov district. This battalion was opened together with the construction battalion during the Serdyukov reforms and the transformation of the OPMP into the OBRMP [naval infantry and armoured naval infantry — someone will help me unscramble those acronyms–CAF]. That is, there is already a battalion in the middle of the city limits (Gorpishchenko Street, Pobedy Avenue are right nearby.)
2. On the north side, an anti-aircraft missile regiment of the naval infantry is based. You can see its location — on maps, the 8-sided castle of the Crimean War era (the Northern Fort) is visible. The numbers of the regiment are sufficient for participation in combat action (there is enough horsepower there, there is always enough to form floats for the historical part of the May 9th [Victory Day] Parade in the city besides their own procession of gunners in modern uniform.
3. In Kazachya Bay, attatched to the naval base is a micro-district of five-story brezhnevki [cheap cement high-rises of the Brezhnev era] (which are well visible on links) in which civilian and not military people live; these apartments were assigned to civilians long ago. You're not afraid to get involved? In fact, in about 10-20 minutes, you can come out through Kamyshov Port to Pravdy Street and further on to the most heavily settled district of the city — Stalingrad Heroes Avenue.
4. New housing for Russian military has been massively built to the right of ul. Kazachya (see Google map). There you can see the new five-story buildings built and the micro-district opened up, and another micro-district is still being built (you can see the construction cite) with about 2,000 or more apartments. Are these the Russian homes you want to occupy? Strategy…
5. In the center of the town, there are Russian units at every step, from the Training Deatchment above the railroad station, endings with the Black Sea Staff near the SGTA (Siberian State Geodesic Academy). Naval infantry are always present there, and their number varies only by the tenseness of the situation.

I'm continuing to research this.
